I really loved this essay! I've been trying to distract myself all week from everything that's going on, by reading Sabrina Carpenter essays and this one is one of the best! As the ultimate boss of procrastination, I started a substack and wrote my first piece (about Sabrina Carpenter). I'm interested in what you think:)
this has been on my mind since I read it- was in an art gallery yesterday and it was so notable that every painting of a woman was her caught off guard (bathing, dressing, doing domestic work) and therefore not looking at the painter/viewer. not to sound like Cynthia Erivo but even just Sabrina looking dead at the camera/viewer, choosing to be seen, is an intentional choice and so different to countless pieces of art where women are subjects and props. amazing piece as always!!
